new painting “Imagine”

Our imaginations can be the fuel for so much in life - growth, purpose, escape, fun, fear, invention. We each have our own story and may use this power differently. My new painting “Imagine” explores this concept for me.

“Imagine” (Detail) Jennifer Lynn Beaudet

This composition builds on a budding body of work that explores setting a realistic figure in an abstracted space. I’ve been playing with backgrounds and patterns in some of my newer work. At the same time, I take care to express the figure sensitively and with attention to expression and realistic form. In this case, I composed the image to include some imaginary elements that both enhance the narrative and challenge me personally.

There is more I can say about this piece and my compositional choices but I will leave it to the viewer to discover their own reaction to the work.

I will say that the process of painting this way is rewarding. My own growth as an artist depends on my curiosity and imagination just as much as my technical and observational skills. Where I chose to edit and add is where the excitement lives and how the story develops.
